Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-sen University, which is located in Kaohsiung City in Southern Taiwan, is currently advertising two Master’s Programs geared toward English-speaking applicants, the International Master’s Program in Telecommunication Engineering (IMPTE) and the International Master’s Program in Electric Power Engineering (IMEPE). The IMPTE provides numerous internship opportunities in the local telecommunication industry, and the IMEPE boasts graduates from several of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies, including Haiti, El Salvador, Panama, Guatemala, Belize, and Kiribati. Both programs also offer two scholarship packages to assist international students. Taiwan's International Institute for Cultural Studies is hosting a "2016 Taiwan Experience Education Program Winter Camp" on "Decoding the Cold War and Facing Contemporary Societies" from 11th to 15th January, 2016. Accommodations and lunches are free. Applications will be accepted until 15th October, 2015 and you can register at the following site if you are interested.


Taiwan's Indigenous Peoples Council has recently announced that it will be taking submissions for the 2015 Makapah Arts Award from now until 30th September, 2015. Anyone interested in Taiwan's indigenous people is invited to use the mediums of photography or drawing/painting to depict the culture and beauty of these people. The International College at Taiwan's Providence University is currently advertising its Graduate International Programs, which include a business administration and information science option. Students enrolling in the program have access to a tuition waiver and the opportunity to study for one year in Taiwan and one year in France. The typical application deadline for Providence is 30th April for fall semester and 30th October for spring semester. The Research and Development Association for Taiwanese Culture and Relics is opening an “Exhibition Room of Taiwanese Ethnology,” which contains Taiwanese relics dating from 50 to 400 years ago. The International Bachelor Degree Program on Energy (IBDP-E) at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is now accepting applications (the application system will close on 10th April, 2015). Taipei National University of the Arts will be accepting applications for its International Master of the Arts in Cultural and Creative Industries (IMCCI) program from 1st February through 15th April, 2015. The IMCCI program is instructed in English and focuses on performing arts in Taiwan, art management and marketing, Taiwanese traditional arts, and cultural diversity and creativity in the arts. The application period for the 2015 TaiwanICDF Higher Education Scholarship Program will extend from 1st January, 2015 to 16th March, 2015. National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences (NTUNHS) will begin accepting applications for the 2015/2016 academic year on 1st January, 2015 (all applications are due by 31st March, 2015). The University System of Taiwan, a consortium of four universities in Taiwan (i.e., National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, National Yang Ming University, and National Central University), has recently announced that its International Program in Inter-Asia Cultural Studies is now accepting applications for the 2015/2016 academic year. On Thursday 30th October, 2014, Ambassador and Madame Taupo, as well as other staff from the Embassy of Tuvalu, will present a lecture on “ano” making and the history of “Te Ano” from 19:00 to 21:00 at Taipei Municipal Bailing Senior High School. The lecture will be hosted as part of Taipei Shilin Community College’s “Learning and Life” lecture series, which will extend from 27th to 31st October and include a total of 22 lectures. The Embassy of Tuvalu, R.O.C. (Taiwan) will be hosting a booth in this year’s 2014 Shilin International Cultural Festival from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on 27th September, 2014 at Chengde Park! To enhance understandings of Tuvaluan culture among Taiwanese citizens, the Tuvalu Booth will display various cultural items, including traditional necklaces, model canoes, traditional mats, and traditional fans, and will give complimentary handmade Tuvaluan balls (called “ano”) to the first 250 lucky guests to visit the Tuvalu Booth on the 27th! Staff at the Tuvalu Booth will also teach interested visitors how to weave their own “ano” and will provide demonstrations of games Tuvaluan citizens play using the “ano”!

The Nan Ying International Folklore Festival is a biannual event held by the Tainan City Government in Southern Taiwan.  The Festival encourages international exchange in the fields of art and culture, enhances Taiwan’s understanding of foreign cultures, and assists international performing groups appreciate the lifestyles and cultures of Taiwan.  The 2014 Nan Ying International Folklore Festival will extend from 4th to 12th October, 2014 with performances conducted at venues throughout Tainan.  Through the generous support of the Government of Tuvalu, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Miaoli’s Cyuanhua Temple Association, the Tuvalu Youth Troupe, an outstanding dancing group from Tuvalu, will join performance groups hailing from countries including Japan, Nepal, India, New Zealand, Malaysia, Turkey, and Panama during this year’s Festival.  The Festival promises to be an amazing experience for audience members, and we encourage anyone interested in culture, dance, and, of course, Tuvalu to travel to Tainan for this magical event!  For more information on Festival performance groups, schedules, and venues, see the official Nan Ying Festival website at http://nyiff.tnc.gov.tw/en/index.

The Culture Day organizers will also be presenting lottery prizes during the festival, and small gifts will be given to audience members who successfully answer questions about the different countries represented at the event!

         Over the next several weeks, Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) will be holding several events to celebrate World Environment Day (WED)! The theme of this year's WED is "Small Islands and Climate Change" and Ambassador Minute Alapati Taupo will be giving several speeches on environmental dangers currently plaguing Tuvalu during WED events.

        Tamkang University is launching a two-year International Master's Program in Taiwan and Asia-Pacific Studies! Brief Description: The South Pacific nation of Tuvalu is a low-lying island group that does not exceed four meters above sea level at its highest point. Tuvalu is also currently considered both a “Least Developed Country” and a “Small Island Developing State.” In view of Tuvalu’s environmental and economic circumstances, the Government of Tuvalu has worked diligently to devise various financial policies and environmental strategies that can serve to both increase national and per capita income and mitigate rising sea levels triggered by climate change. Minute Alapati Taupo, current Ambassador at the Embassy of Tuvalu in the R.O.C. (Taiwan), formerly served as Tuvalu’s Permanent Secretary for Finance and Economic Development. Consequently, Ambassador Taupo possesses a comprehensive understanding of Tuvalu’s financial policies as well as unique views regarding the nation’s environmental concerns. During his lecture, Ambassador Taupo will explain the history of several significant financial strategies and environmental measures that have been adopted by the Government of Tuvalu.

     National Taiwan University of Arts in New Taipei City has recently established the MA Program of Chinese Arts for International Students (MACAIS), a Master's program on Chinese art taught mainly in English. The program provides students with the opportunity to study Chinese art theoretically and practically in Taiwan. The application period for the program is 1st April to 30th May 2014, and interested students can find more information at http://macais.ntua.edu.tw.


     Students in Tuvalu are now welcome to apply for R.O.C. degree programs, as well as the relevant Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) scholarships that can provide financial support for these programs.

台北市士林區公所訂於2014年9月27日下午2點至5點在承德公園舉辦2014士林國際文化節。吐瓦魯國駐華大使館將在該文化節設攤!為了促進台灣民眾對吐瓦魯文化之了解,吐瓦魯大使館將在攤位展示如傳統項鍊、傳統獨木舟、傳統草蓆、傳統扇等吐瓦魯文物,也將贈送一個吐瓦魯手工球(吐瓦魯語稱作「ano」、中文翻譯為「阿儂」)給在9月27日前來參觀的前兩百五十名民眾!此外,文化節期間,吐瓦魯攤位員工會傳授編織「ano」球的技巧,也會示範吐瓦魯國民打「ano」球的打法!

行政院環境保護署將於2014年5月30日起舉行為期一周與2014年世界環境日相關之活動!今年世界環境日的主題是「小島嶼與氣候變遷」。因此,吐瓦魯國駐華大使陶敏德不僅將出席所有世界環境日相關活動,也獲邀講解吐國目前面臨之氣候變遷危機。

演講內容:地勢低平的環礁島國—吐瓦魯,猶如一串灑落在南太平洋上的珍珠項鍊,國土最高點不超過海拔四公尺,並列「最低度開發國家」與「小島嶼發展中國家」;政府一直致力於透過各種財經計畫與環保策略,增加國家與人民所得,減緩氣候變遷所造成海平面上升的威脅。吐國駐華大使陶敏德,曾任財經部常務次長,深諳財經政策,對環保議題更有獨特見解;希望藉此介紹這個純樸的海角樂園,對財經與環保的實質努力,並喚醒民眾對環境變遷的危機意識,確切實踐以維永續。
