The Embassy of Tuvalu, R.O.C. (Taiwan) hosted a booth in this year’s 2014 Shilin International Cultural Festival on 27th September, 2014 at Chengde Park! The Festival was sponsored by the Shilin District Office and the Department of Civil Affairs for the Taipei City Government and was a truly multicultural event, featuring booths sponsored by the Embassies and Representative Offices of Haiti, Oman, Mexico, and Spain in Taiwan, as well as the Taipei American and European Schools!
The theme of this year’s Shilin Cultural Festival was “Toys in Our Memory.” In honor of this theme, the Tuvalu Booth promoted Tuvalu’s traditional ball, the “ano,” as well as games played using this ball. Aside from distributing complimentary “ano” to the first 250 visitors to the Tuvalu Booth, staff at the booth (composed mainly of Tuvaluan students studying in Taiwan) taught Taiwanese children attending the event how to weave their own “ano”. The activity was a huge success, and the Tuvalu Booth was consistently crowded with children excited to learn the secrets of “ano” weaving.
