On Saturday 5th October, 2014, the Tuvalu Youth Troupe, an outstanding group of dancers and singers from Tuvalu, performed during the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Nan Ying International Folklore Festival in Tainan, Taiwan. The event, which was attended by Ambassador Minute Alapati Taupo and staff from the Embassy of Tuvalu, featured performances by traditional dancing groups from nineteen countries including Indonesia, Serbia, the Philippines, Mexico, and Russia, and was hosted by the Mayor of Tainan City Ching-Te Lai. The Opening Ceremony attracted a large and enthusiastic audience and was a promising beginning for the Nan Ying Festival, which will continue until Sunday 12th October, 2014.
The Nan Ying International Folklore Festival is a biannual event held by the Tainan City Government. The Festival encourages international exchange in the fields of art and culture, enhances Taiwan’s understanding of foreign cultures, and assists international performing groups appreciate the lifestyles and cultures of Taiwan. This year’s Festival extends from 4th to 12th October, 2014 with performances conducted at venues throughout Tainan including Tainan’s Jiali, Beimen, Anding, Gueiren, Siaying, and Yongkang Districts.
