On the morning of 28th November, 2014, Ambassador Minute Alapati Taupo and Madame Seleta Kapua Taupo traveled to the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou Regional Branch of the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor to attend the Graduation Ceremony for the first “Tuvalu Youth Technician Training Program.” The President of Overseas Chinese University (which assisted in the culinary portion of the training program), the Director General of the Central Taiwan Office for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and officials from Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor were all in attendance. During the Ceremony, Ambassador Taupo made a short speech during which he commented that the Tuvaluan trainees were extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend a training program in Taiwan and that the professional skills they had cultivated during the program would contribute tremendously to Tuvalu’s development. Additionally, all attendees at the event were overjoyed that the twelve Tuvaluans who had participated in the program had shown outstanding progress and diligence during their training courses, which focused on cooking, automobile and motorcycle repair, electrical maintenance, and handicraft production. Near the end of the Graduation Ceremony, a representative from the Tuvalu trainee group, Mr. Taukiei Lesaa, was also invited to present a short speech. Mr. Lesaa thanked Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Labor for sponsoring the training program and providing an unforgettable opportunity for the trainees. Mr. Lesaa further led the trainees in presenting gifts to VIPs attending the Graduation Ceremony, including Ambassador Taupo, to show their appreciation for the support they had received while in Taiwan.
