Tuvalu Prime Minister and Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs Attend Opening Ceremony for the Embassy of Tuvalu in the Republic of China (Taiwan)/吐瓦魯國總理與臺灣外交部長出席吐瓦魯駐華大使館開館儀式 / by Minute Taupo


        An official opening ceremony for the Embassy of Tuvalu in the Republic of China (Taiwan) was held on 14 March 2013 in Taipei’s International Trade Building. The opening consisted of an unveiling ceremony at the site of the newly established Embassy and a reception sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (Taiwan) for government officials and students from Tuvalu, the heads of Embassies and Missions in Taiwan, and representatives from Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government offices. During the reception, Tuvalu’s Prime Minister Honorable Willy Telavi and Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs David Lin delivered speeches emphasizing the strong diplomatic relations existing between Tuvalu and Taiwan, after which Tuvaluan students studying in the R.O.C. performed traditional dances in honor of the new Embassy.

         The Embassy of Tuvalu in the R.O.C. is Tuvalu’s fifth official Embassy. Former Permanent Secretary for Tuvalu’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Development Minute Alapati Taupo has been selected to lead the Embassy as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Taiwan.
