The annual TAIPEI 101 Run Up competition challenges participants to race to the 91st floor of Taiwan’s tallest building, Taipei 101, which requires defeating at total of 2,046 stairs and ascending to a height of 390 meters. This year, the 2014 TAIPEI 101 Run Up was held on the morning of Sunday 4 May and greeted over 5,000 participants from Taiwan and abroad.
One of the highlights of this year’s Run Up was undoubtedly the participation of an “International Ambassador Team” composed of foreign ambassadors and representatives to Taiwan including Ambassador Minute Alapati Taupo from the Embassy of Tuvalu, Ambassador Jasmine Elise Huggins from the Embassy of Saint Christopher and Nevis, and Representative Simona Halperin from the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei. Competing as a part of Taipei 101’s “Celebrity Relay,” ambassadors and representatives to Taiwan were asked to complete the race to the 91st floor of Taipei 101 as a team, which required each participant to run approximately five flights of stairs. Additionally, the “International Ambassador Team” was joined in the “Celebrity Relay” by a team of chief executives with offices in Taipei 101 and a team of business owners from Taipei’s Xinyi Commercial Center.
During her speech at the Run Up, Taipei 101’s chairperson Christina Sung thanked all participating ambassadors and representatives for their support and stated that the “Celebrity Relay” marked an unforgettable moment in the history of the race.
