Under the leadership of Ambassador Minute Alapati Taupo, the Embassy of Tuvalu, R.O.C. (Taiwan) hosted a booth in this year’s 2015 Shilin International Cultural Festival on 3rd October, 2015 near the Tianmu Sogo! The Festival, which featured a multitude of booths organized by both foreign countries, including Tuvalu, Paraguay, Kiribati, the Solomon Islands, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Mexico, and Oman, as well as local institutions, was sponsored by the Shilin District Office and the Taipei City Government Civil Affairs Department and provided Taiwanese citizens with a unique opportunity to better understand both local and foreign cultures!
The theme of this year’s Shilin International Cultural Festival was “Fun and Enjoyable Cultural Experiences.” In honor of this theme, the Tuvalu Booth promoted the “Music, Instruments, and Dancing of Tuvalu” by displaying a variety of Tuvaluan instruments and dance costumes and providing posters explaining Tuvalu’s rich music and dance culture. The main attractions at the booth were colorful listening stations at which visitors could choose from a selection of traditional and contemporary Tuvaluan songs and revel in Tuvalu’s enticing musical stylings! Both Ambassador and Madame Taupo and a number of Tuvaluan students studying in Taiwan attended the Festival to support the Tuvalu Booth and, in some cases, show off their own musical skills!
