On the morning of 21st December, 2015, Ambassador Minute Alapati Taupo, Madame Seleta Kapua Taupo, and staff from the Embassy of Tuvalu, R.O.C. (Taiwan) traveled to the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou Regional Branch of the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor to attend the Closing Ceremony for the “2015 Vocational Training Project for Youth in the Pacific.” The Secretary General of the TaiwanICDF, Ambassador Weber V.B. Shih; Ambassadors and representatives from the Embassies of Nauru, Kiribati, Palau, the Marshall Islands, and the Solomon Islands; the Director General of the Central Taiwan Office for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Alejandro Huang; and officials from Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor were all in attendance to congratulate the graduating trainees.

The “2015 Vocational Training Project for Youth in the Pacific” was a four-month vocational training program organized and sponsored by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labor, and the TaiwanICDF. A total of thirty citizens from Taiwan’s allies in the Pacific (i.e., Nauru, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Palau, the Marshall Islands, and the Solomon Islands) participated in the project and were provided training in the areas of electrical and electronic engineering, automotive mechanics, or woodworking. The main aim of the project was to develop human resources and strengthen vocational training in the Pacific by sharing R.O.C. expertise in relevant fields.

At the closing ceremony, Ambassador Taupo was invited to speak on behalf of Taiwan’s Pacific allies represented at the program, during which time he expressed his confidence that the training program would undoubtedly enhance vocational infrastructure in the Pacific and strengthen the close relationships maintained between Taiwan and its Pacific allies. 

Tuvaluan trainees Siaosi Taake and Baeke Timoteo were also selected to speak on behalf of the graduating class of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Automotive Mechanics, respectively. The two trainees expressed their sincerest gratitude for their instructors and all the organizations involved in the planning of the program and stated that they looked forward to the opportunities awaiting them back home in Tuvalu.

2015年12月21日上午,吐瓦魯國駐華大使陶敏德、大使夫人陶思靈與大使館人員於勞動部勞動力發展署中彰投分署參加「2015太平洋島國青年技職訓練計劃結訓典禮」。財團法人國際合作發展基金會施文斌秘書長,諾魯、吉里巴斯、帛琉、馬紹爾群島以及索羅門群島駐華大使與代表,外交部中部辦事處處長黃榮國大使,及中華民國勞動部官員亦出席該結訓典禮,向完成該課程的學員祝賀。

「2015太平洋島國青年技職訓練計劃」是為期四個月之培訓課程,由中華民國外交部、勞動部以及國合會贊助並合作辦理。由來自台灣太平洋邦交國(即諾魯、吐瓦魯、吉里巴斯、帛琉、馬紹爾群島以及索羅門群島)之30名學員參與該計畫,接受「電機實務」、「汽車修護」或「木工實務」方面的技術性訓練。該計畫主要目標為透過分享台灣在技術性方面之專業能力、以增強太平洋島國人力資源,並強化技術性訓練品質。

結訓典禮中,陶敏德大使受邀代表駐華使節致詞。大使致詞時,表示學員在台灣所培養的專業技能可促進太平洋島國技術性基礎建設之發展並將使得台灣與其太平洋友邦之間的關係變得更加穩固。

兩位吐瓦魯學員Siaosi Taake以及Baeke Timoteo,也分別獲選代表「電機實務」及「汽車修護」班發表畢業感言,兩人於感言中對所有老師以及主辦組織表達感謝之意,並且對未來在吐瓦魯的就業機會感到萬分期待。
