Embassy Introduction

The Embassy of Tuvalu in the R.O.C. was established in Taipei in March of 2013 and is currently one of the most recent additions to the Diplomatic Corps of the Republic of China. Despite the relative “youth" of the Embassy, however, Tuvalu has maintained longstanding diplomatic relations with Taiwan since 1979, a year after the declaration of full Tuvaluan independence in 1978. The Embassy is proud to offer its services to citizens of Tuvalu and any other persons (Taiwanese citizens or otherwise) hoping to travel or volunteer in Tuvalu, collaborate on projects to enhance relations between Tuvalu and Taiwan, or propose programs by which to improve quality of life for the people of Tuvalu through public aid, education and training, green solutions, or human resource management.

Currently overseen by Ambassador Minute Alapati Taupo, the mission of the Embassy of Tuvalu in the R.O.C. is to ensure an enhanced international voice for Tuvalu through strategic representation in Taiwan. Specifically, the Embassy strives to effectively represent Tuvalu in Taiwan, Asia, and United Nations agencies and interregional organizations in Asia, with an emphasis on mitigating the threats of climate change and supporting Taiwan in its international endeavors, including access to membership in the UN. The Embassy will also seek to engage in advanced collaboration with Taiwan, particularly Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as other parties in Asia, to maximize economic and political opportunities beneficial to Tuvalu while also facilitating the establishment of new diplomatic partners in Asia. Consequently, the Embassy promotes the wider participation of Tuvaluans in technical, educational, and health programs offered through Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Development Fund and secures work placements for Tuvaluan nationals throughout Asia. Furthermore, the Embassy hopes to increase Tuvalu’s participation in activities that can promote mutual understanding between Tuvalu and Taiwan, Tuvalu and other Asian countries, and Tuvalu and United Nations agencies and interregional organizations in the Asian region. Finally, the Embassy communicates with the Government of Tuvalu on a regular basis regarding issues in Taiwan, other Asian countries, and United Nations agencies and interregional organizations and strives toward the improved implementation of Tuvalu’s foreign policy.
